Mummy-D releases his solo single with Ill-Bosstino

Mummy-D, a member of the group RHYMESTER, has recently launched his first solo single titled “Looking at the Same Moon” (同じ月を見ていた) feat. ILL-BOSSTINO. After over three decades in the industry, this release marks a significant moment for the artist. The single prequels a legendary feud between RHYMESTER and the group THA BLUE HERB in the 1990s. Japanese hip-hop fans eagerly await this new track, which promises to be filled with nostalgia and reconciliation.

Mummy-D (RHYMESTER) and THA BLUE HERB, a Legendary Rivalry

In the late 1990s, the Japanese hip-hop scene witnessed a fierce rivalry between RHYMESTER and THA BLUE HERB. These two groups, based in Tokyo and Sapporo respectively, competed to conquer Japan’s emerging hip-hop world. Their rivalry was expressed through songs and interviews, and for years, various specialized media speculated about the true nature of this feud. Over two decades later, in 2020, tensions finally eased. tha BOSS invited Mummy-D to collaborate on Starting Over, a track from his solo project released in April 2023. This song began a reconciliation between the two artists and generated excitement among fans for a more profound collaboration.

“Looking at the Same Moon” (同じ月を見ていた)

This new single is Mummy-D’s first solo release featuring ILL-BOSSTINO, and it revisits the rivalry between RHYMESTER and THA BLUE HERB. The single also gives listeners a glimpse into both artists’ past history and evolution since that tumultuous era. The music video, directed by IKUO YAMAMOTO (PHENEXT), emotionally depicts this story from the past. In addition to his first solo single, Mummy-D has announced the release of his first original album in six years, titled “Open The Window“, scheduled for June 21. The artist will also embark on a 15-concert national tour starting in July 2023, including a solo concert at the prestigious Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
