After the end of KANDYTOWN, both rappers have successfully pursued their solo careers: MUD released the album MAKE U DIRTY 2 in 2023, while Gottz unveiled NUMBERS last year. Despite their sustained solo activities between albums and concerts, their previous collaboration as a duo dates back to July 2020, with the release of their first album, VERTEX, marking nearly five years of anticipation for their fans.
“Main Job” marks the duo’s major comeback with a raw and intense track. The song is built on production by MYMADE & WATAPACHI, creating a solid rhythmic foundation on which the two artists’ incisive lyrics are laid. This musical collaboration confirms the artistic synergy that has always characterized Gottz & MUD.
The mixing and mastering were entrusted to Ryusei from ebonyeyes studios, ensuring sound quality that meets expectations. The cover art and photographic visuals are the work of Kohei Suda, while the typographic design was created by KAWARATORA DESIGN. To accompany this release, a music video was created under the direction of creator CHOBI, with Kohei Suda as producer. This audiovisual creation stands out for its narrative approach, rich in visual effects and technical innovations, which faithfully follows the universe developed in the song’s lyrics.
The duo also unveils new artistic visuals captured by photographer Atsuko Tanaka, who is recognized for her work with numerous renowned hip-hop artists. These images reflect the duo’s aesthetic evolution and mark the beginning of a new creative era. Announcements at recent concerts suggest that a full album is planned for this summer, making “Main Job” a promising preview of what awaits Japanese hip-hop enthusiasts. This prospect makes Gottz & MUD’s current activities particularly interesting to follow in the coming months.
