FLOAT JAM Releases Second Album, “THE HIGH END THEORY”

The rap group FLOAT JAM released their second album, “THE HIGH END THEORY”, on May 3, 2023, several years after their first album, “STEREO“, in October 2016. The group comprises two MCs, YOUSEE, ND, and DJ PUNCH. Since the late 90s, they have regularly organized hip-hop nights at various clubs in the suburbs of Tokyo, such as Shibuya Family and Shinjuku IZM.

Their first EP, “THANK“, recorded at home, was picked up by “Radio Sakamoto,” led by Ryuichi Sakamoto. In the early 2000s, they were members of the “ZIPBLOCK” crew led by FOURD NKAY and released the album “The Junk City Renaissance.” In 2010, they won the “Better Half” remix contest organized by AKLO & L-Vokal at Amebreak, alongside SKY-HI, EGO, LB, and OTOWA. In 2016, they released two free download EPs, “MONORAL-L” and “MONORAL-R”, as well as their first original album, “STEREO“. The album was selected as one of the “12 editorial recommendations” in the WARP magazine the same year. In 2019, they participated in the album “Morpheme Tone” by Japanese jazz pianist and beatmaker KAZUMI KANEDA, released on the Canadian label INNER OCEAN RECORDS.

FLOAT JAM and PACKED RICH, a collaboration between Japanese and German artists

“THE HIGH END THEORY” is an EP in collaboration with German beatmaker PACKED RICH, which they have been preparing behind the scenes since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The group drew from all eras of hip-hop to create their own jazzy and progressive style. This album reflects their artistic evolution since their debut in the 90s and shows that Japanese rappers still have an important place in the global hip-hop scene.
