It Was All A Dream: A Powerful Album with 12 Tracks and 31 Artists
It Was All A Dream consists of 12 diverse tracks, each showcasing a different side of Japanese rap. In total, 31 artists appear on the record, highlighting DJ RYOW’s rare ability to bridge generations. The opening track features his longtime friend AK-69. Their strong connection represents the Nagoya scene and immediately sets an authentic tone for the album. The lead track, featuring guca owl, marks their second collaboration following DJ RYOW’s 14th album. On that record, guca owl stood out alongside LANA and ¥ellow Bucks. This time, he returns solo, showing his full talent and giving the project a distinct identity.
One of the most anticipated songs on the album is “KING OF BULLSH*T“. This track serves as the theme song for the documentary film about TOKONA-X, the legendary rapper from Nagoya who passed away too soon but remains deeply respected. Since April 2025, the documentary has been screened in several theaters, reminding audiences of TOKONA-X’s immense impact on Japanese hip-hop. By including this track on the album, DJ RYOW pays tribute to the memory of a major artist and reaffirms the importance of Nagoya in the history of Japanese rap.
Innovation with EP30 and Red Bull RASEN
DJ RYOW doesn’t only look back on the past—he also embraces the future. The album includes the first-ever recording of EP30, taken from Red Bull’s RASEN project. This microphone relay format highlights the creativity of the new generation. By adding it to the album, DJ RYOW shows his commitment to staying connected to modern platforms and supporting emerging talent.
Another highlight of It Was All A Dream is the comeback of Mr. OZ and G.CUE, members of the legendary group PHOBIA OF THUG. After 20 years of silence, these Nagoya icons return to the studio with DJ RYOW. For longtime fans, their participation is a true event, marking the continuity of Japanese hip-hop’s heritage. Alongside these veterans, DJ RYOW also shines a light on new rappers such as STACK THE PINK and Worldwide Skippa. These younger artists represent the future of the Tokai scene. Their fresh and dynamic style shows that Japanese hip-hop continues to evolve. With their presence, the album becomes a genuine bridge between generations.
The album title references an iconic phrase from American rap, symbolizing a dream that has become a reality. For DJ RYOW, it is not only a nod to global hip-hop culture but also a reflection of his own journey. Starting from Nagoya with just a dream, he is now recognized as one of Japan’s leading producers. It Was All A Dream is, therefore, both a tribute to his inspirations and a celebration of his success.
