The duo EVISBEATS & Nagipan has just unveiled “Kusatsu-Bushi feat. SayMay“, a musical creation that brilliantly reimagines the legacy of Japanese folk songs. Released on August 8, 2025, under the AMIDA STUDIO label, this new collaboration follows their previous joint project “萃点” (Suitten).
Kusatsu-Bushi: A Meeting Between Tradition and Modernity
“Kusatsu-Bushi feat. SayMay” takes root in the famous Kusatsu-bushi, a traditional Japanese folk song, to transform it into a resolutely contemporary work. EVISBEATS and Nagipan (former member of MICHEL☆PUNCH) orchestrate this metamorphosis by blending reggae basslines with hip-hop rhythms, creating a sonic bridge between generations. This innovative approach preserves the spiritual essence of min’yō (folk song) while adapting it to current musical codes. The result is a “Japanese song” of a new kind, where ancestral melodies find new life in the contemporary urban universe.
