The hip-hop crew from Chiba Prefecture, interplay, has announced the release of their debut full-length album, titled Making a Way, scheduled for August 6, 2025. Comprising eleven tracks, this album paints a portrait of a generation navigating between ordinary daily life and subtle emotions. Nearly two years after their EP interplay, the collective chose to focus on the theme of “ordinary life,” creating a work devoid of artifice and excessive staging. The result is an authentic, ground-level perspective on the current era.
Interplay’s approach stands out for its sincerity: no grandiloquence or fiction, but a genuine perspective from those who breathe the air of this time. This philosophy is evident in every track, offering listeners a profoundly human musical experience.
The album’s sixth track features me2, a rapper based in Setagaya, Tokyo, with whom the group has maintained a long-standing friendship. A versatile artist who moves seamlessly between the hip-hop and R&B universes, me2 brings her distinctive, soulful voice, which significantly enriches the album’s sonic palette.
“Making a Way”: Refined Production by Negg
The entire album was produced by beatmaker Negg, who prioritized warmth over brilliance. His sonic signature is characterized by subtle arrangements that oscillate between contemplative moments and more intense passages, creating the perfect musical setting to capture the emotional nuances of daily life. This production approach perfectly reflects the album’s overall aesthetic: prioritizing emotion over effect, substance over form.
To celebrate this release, interplay will host a launch party on September 17, 2025, at the prestigious ORD. in Daikanyama, Tokyo. This evening promises to be memorable with a first-class artistic lineup.
