The countdown has begun for turntablism and DJ culture enthusiasts: two major DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS events are just around the corner. The first, DMC JAPAN DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 FINAL supported by Technics, will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at WOMBLIVE in Tokyo. This national final will crown Japan’s No.1 DJ and determine who will represent the country at the World Championship.
Founded in 1985 in London, the DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. As the ultimate reference in DJ competitions, it has launched international stars such as A-Trak, DJ Craze, Hudson Mohawke, and Cashmere Cat. Since joining in 1990, Japan has produced several world champions, including DJ KENTARO, DJ IZOH, DJ RENA (the youngest-ever world champion at just 12), and DJ MATSUNAGA from the duo Creepy Nuts. For the 2025 edition, the competition format evolves: the “Single” category is now called CLASSIC, the “Battle Category” becomes BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY, and two new divisions are introduced: SCRATCH BATTLE (focused on scratch mastery) and THE OPEN (advanced mixing and musical storytelling). This year’s finalists include former champions, talented high school DJs, and, for the first time in DMC history, a mother and daughter competing in different categories.

This historic competition will bring together the world’s top DJs in a legendary battle, celebrating four decades of excellence. The national champions, including the one crowned in late August, will fight for the ultimate world title. With new categories, intergenerational talent, and international prestige, DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 is set to write a significant new chapter in DJ culture.
