YouTube is arguably the leading video publishing platform since its launch around 2005. In the context of the global health crisis, its impact on the careers of music artists is sometimes decisive. Iconic Japanese hip-hop rappers have never been more engaged on their YouTube channels, streaming platforms, and other social networks. What’s more, the video format offers artists almost infinite creative freedom. Artists have understood that more than production work is needed for a song to reach one million views. Constructing original, carefully crafted visuals is now part of the promotional strategy. Some rappers have succeeded in developing standard energy while others have gathered a maximum of rappers on the same production.
After hours of brainstorming among the editorial staff, we created a list of 50 Japanese hip-hop tracks. Primarily dominated by male rappers, our list is not a ranking. Instead, it enumerates fifty essential ways released between 2010 and 2022. Among the most prominent rappers driving this scene, we can easily find recent rap groups such as BAD HOP and NAMEDARUMA.
